Brand-new electric tram-trains are now being tested on the recently electrified Valleys railway lines, as TfW take another step forward with delivering the next phase of the South Wales Metro.

Transport for Wales is excited to announce that the Rhymney valley railway line will undergo major enhancements as part of the next phase of the South Wales Metro.  

Proposals to make major sustainable travel improvements in Newport city centre have been progressed.

A major rail timetable change will see train times change significantly in December, allowing for increased services at some stations, later services from Cardiff Central and Swansea, trains leaving at the same time past each hour and more new trains. 

Contactless tap in, tap out ‘Pay As You Go’ rail payment option has now been extended to the Maesteg line (from Mon 30th Sept).

One of the key rail routes between Wales and England has seen 60,000 extra passenger journeys made and a 27% increase in trains arriving on time over the last year.

Runners competing in the Cardiff Half Marathon this October will be able to catch the train in for the start for the first time ever.

Transport for Wales has completed a million-pound investment into Flint and Runcorn East railway stations.  

They say the railway is a family and that’s certainly the case up in Rhymney where a father and his daughter are both working, having passed out 17 years apart.

Transport for Wales trains successfully transported over 160,000 music fans into Cardiff this summer for shows by global music stars at the Principality Stadium and an additional 100,000 in and out of Pontypridd last week for the National Eisteddfod.  

MORE than 60,000 extra journeys have been made on the Ebbw Vale line since the launch of new services to Newport.
