Transport for Wales is transforming rail services in Wales and the borders with small and medium businesses set to play a key role in the transformation.

What does it mean for passengers?

In the coming months and years, we’ll be making a huge investment in our railways and with six weeks to go until Transport for Wales starts running the Wales and Borders rail service, we’re keen to update you on the exciting transformation. Preparations for the transfer are well underway and we are working with Arriva Trains Wales to ensure a seamless transition. Here are some of the changes you’ll see from Day 1.

Heather Clash and Alexia Course join Transport for Wales as the company prepares to take over the management of the Wales and Borders rail service from mid-October.

Located in Wrexham, the new unit will employ a total of 30 staff by 2019, with ten expected to be in post in 2018.

The new board members will join Transport for Wales’ Interim Chair, Nick Gregg and current board members Martin Dorchester and James Price. Board members Peter Kennedy and Brian McKenzie will step down following the board’s next meeting on 2nd July.

A new state of the art train depot is to open in Taffs Well as part of plans for the South Wales Metro, Economy Secretary Ken Skates has announced.

News that that the new Wales and Borders rail service and South Wales Metro will result in two new head offices coming to Wales with the creation of around 130 high quality jobs has been welcomed by Economy Secretary Ken Skates.

Rail passengers across Wales and its borders can look forward to the transformation of their rail services thanks to a £5 billion investment that will fund significant improvements to the frequency and quality of Wales and Borders services, as well as the creation of the South Wales Metro.
