More than 1,700 people have visited Wales' stunning landmarks by rail so far this year thanks to a partnership between Transport for Wales and Cadw.

The Cambrian line is expected to open for normal services from Monday following the tragic rail accident earlier this week, Network Rail and Transport for Wales announced today.

Transport for Wales (TfW) recorded the largest rise in passenger numbers out of all the UK’s train operators this spring, up 27% on the previous year.

Transport for Wales has made significant progress with the reliability and punctuality of its services over the last year, new figures from the Office of Rail and Road (ORR)* have shown.

Over the past months, Transport for Wales has increased its engineering work along the Coryton line in preparation for electrifying the line in early November 2024. This marks a significant milestone in the South Wales Metro programme and will allow TfW to introduce new trains on the Coryton line from spring 2025.
