If you use the TrawsCymu app to purchase your tickets and have a mytravelpass, from Monday 30 October you will need to verify your travel pass in the app to prove your eligibility to purchase ‘mytravelpass 16-21’ discount tickets.
What is mytravelpass (MTP)
mytravelpass is a scheme funded by the Welsh Government to provide discounted bus fares to young people. It provides people in Wales aged 16 to 21 with approximately 1/3 off their bus fare.
You can use mytravelpass at any time of day and on any day of the week that the services operate, including weekends and bank holidays.
There is no restriction on the type of journey you make when you use mytravelpass. Your journey can be for school or college, visiting friends and leisure.
How do I verify my pass?
Once you’ve received your mytravelpass, you will need to log into your TrawsCymru app account or create one if you haven’t already used the app, then follow the below steps.
You’ll only need to verify your pass once as it will remain linked to your account until it expires on your 22nd birthday.
- Buy a ‘16 - 21 ticket’ on the app
- Click ‘Get verified’
- Upload a photo* of yourself – a selfie will do
- Upload a photo of your mytravelpass
- Keep an eye on your emails. You’ll receive an email when your pass has been verified.
*Photos: In your photo you will need to be facing forward and looking straight at the camera. Your photo must be clear and in focus and unaltered / not filtered. We use your photo to verify your ID and show it on your ticket so the driver can verify it is you. You won't be able to change your photo after it's been verified.
How long will it take to verify my pass?
Verification can take up to 48 hours but is often much quicker than that. You can still use your mytravelpass to buy tickets on the bus from the driver at a discounted rate while your pass is being verified.
