1. Tenby to Saundersfoot – South Pembrokeshire fflecsi zone

A trip to Pembrokeshire wouldn’t be complete without visiting these seaside towns – this National Walking Month, you can do both.

Ideal for a half-day outing, Tenby to Saundersfoot is a popular walk along the Wales Coast Path in Pembrokeshire. Boasting iconic landmarks and beautiful views throughout, be mindful that this walk does involve steep steps through areas of woodland.

You’ll pass St Catherine’s Island, Tenby’s iconic landmark that is rich in maritime history. Tenby Museum and Art Gallery are located along this route, a handy place to stop and explore if you want a break. Further on, you’ll walk through Monkstone Beach, a hidden gem with stunning views.

Once you arrive at the charming village of Saundersfoot, there are plenty of food and drink options to choose from. Pub grub, fish and chips and ice cream – whatever you fancy, you’ll find in Saundersfoot.

For a truly rugged coastline, coastal grazing and birdwatching, head to Cemaes Head this National Walking Month.

Challenging but rewarding, this circular route showcases the highest sea cliffs in Pembrokeshire National Park. Perfect for keen birdwatchers, expect to see a range of birdlife at Cemaes Head. As we head into summer, keep an eye out for:

  • Fulmars
  • Cormorants
  • Chough
  • Kestrels
  • Buzzards

Eager to see more animals along this section of the Wales Coast Path? The natural habitat has thrived since the reintroduction of coastal grazing by ponies, and you’ll likely spot rabbits grazing as well. As you admire Cardigan Bay, try to spot bottlenose dolphins. If you’re planning your trip later in the year, you might be lucky enough to see seals, which breed on the beach from August to October.

Beginning at Porth Dinllaen, enjoy its historic harbour and rich marine life as you embark on your walk.

This trail offers ever-changing views, from golden sands to the sweeping Irish Sea along the cliff tops. Keep an eye out for seals as you enjoy the sea views.

Small coves and headlands along the way showcase the unspoilt rural scenery that the Llŷn Peninsula is renowned for. Finish at Porth Ysgaden, the perfect place to have a picnic and relax after your walk.
