Trafnidiaeth Cymru ar y trywydd iawn ar gyfer digwyddiadau'r haf.

01 May 2024

Transport for Wales (TfW) is gearing up for a busy summer season following the successful movement of over 100,000 fans to recent events in Cardiff.

The Six Nations and European Qualifiers fixtures saw a significant surge in passenger numbers, with 5 major events passing without any significant safety incidents.

TfW implemented a comprehensive train and customer plan informed by previous feedback which included additional, retimed and strengthened services to meet the demand.

Georgina Wills, Customer Delivery and Events Planning Manager at Transport for Wales said:

“We are incredibly proud of our teams who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to accommodate the influx of fans for these major events.

“The successful movement of 100,000 fans through Cardiff Central station is a testament to our commitment to providing reliable and efficient transport services.

“Building on this success, we’re now looking forward to a busy summer season with a number of major events scheduled starting with Bruce Springsteen concert this weekend.”

TfW will be providing additional capacity where possible on routes in/out of Cardiff on Sunday (5 May) but there are a reduced number of services on a Sunday and trains are expected to be very busy, customers are advised to allow plenty of time for their journey.

Post-event queues for mainline rail services will be on Central Square and queues for Valleys services will be to the rear of the station. Cardiff Queen Street will close at 21:30 except for accessible access and passengers that wish to travel to Cardiff Bay.

Due to the timing of the event, there are no post-event services to Birmingham or North Wales. Engineering cutbacks have been arranged with Amey Infrastructure Wales and Network Rail to facilitate the running of additional services post event.

Strengthening and limited additional services have been arranged on the following routes:

Ebbw Vale, Barry Island, Aberdare, Treherbert, Merthyr Tydfil, Rhymney, Newport, Carmarthen and Marches (Hereford & Gloucester).

To ensure a smooth and enjoyable travel experience for all upcoming summer events, TfW encourage fans to plan their journeys in advance using the TfW website or app.
