Transport for Wales is celebrating nominations for two UK National GO Awards for the innovative procurement process for the Wales and Borders rail service.
The prestigious annual GO Awards showcase the innovations, initiatives and advancements that make the UK a world leader in smart and effective public procurement.
TfW, along with colleagues at Infrastructure Advisory UK Ltd, Steer, Mott McDonald, ChandlerKBS, Grant Thornton, Blake Morgan and Burges Salmon, have received nominations in two categories. One for the Procurement Project of the Year above £20 million and the second for the procurement of the new Operator and Development Partner, who are responsible for running trains throughout the Wales and Borders network and developing the South Wales Metro.
The 15-year contract was awarded in June 2018 following a successful two-year procurement process, and services began running under the Transport for Wales brand in October.
TfW are investing £5 billion to transform rail services in Wales and the Borders, with commitments to deliver more frequent services, brand new trains, improved station facilities and 600 new jobs.
James Price, chief executive of Transport for Wales, said:
“I am delighted that we have been nominated for these awards. This is a reflection of the outstanding work completed by our teams during the procurement process for the Wales and Borders rail service, which will play a key role in delivering a high quality, safe, integrated, affordable and accessible transport network that the people of Wales are proud of.”
The awards ceremony is scheduled to be held on 30th April at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel.
