Gwasanaethau diweddarach ar y Cambrian i barhau drwy gydol y gaeaf yn dilyn adborth lleol

27 Oct 2025

After engagement with local communities, evening train services on the Cambrian Line are intended to remain in operation after the December timetable change.

The following late evening services are planned to still be part of the timetable after this year’s changes:

Monday to Saturday

  • 20:26 Pwllheli - Machynlleth
  • 21:47 Machynlleth – Pwllheli

These services were due to be removed during the upcoming winter months after showing low numbers of passenger use over previous winters.

However, following positive engagement and discussions between Transport for Wales and local community groups, the intention is that they will remain in place, with continued monitoring. Brand-new trains are still planned to be introduced to the line next year (2026).

Ken Skates, Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales said: “Transport for Wales has listened to the concerns of local people and taken action to continue running important rail services where needed.

“We’ve invested £800 million into brand-new trains across Wales and the Borders, with further improvements coming to mid-Wales during 2026.

“We’re proud to be delivering real change for the people of Wales.”

Colin Lea, Planning and Performance Director at Transport for Wales added: “Working closely with local communities along the Cambrian Line, we’re pleased to reinstate these evening services to support the region. We really encourage everyone to use these services so that we can continue to support them in the coming years.

“It’s a clear example of how listening to the people we serve leads to better outcomes for everyone. We’re also looking forward to introducing brand-new trains to the line next year”.

Notes to editors

  • These services are pending approval of detailed week by week requirements by Network Rail. For example, the services may not be possible to run on some limited dates in early February due to engineering work at Criccieth.
  • Across the UK rail industry there are two major timetable changes each year in May and in December as part of the national biannual railway timetable change coordinated across Great Britain.
  • The new timetables are now in journey planning systems ahead of the change on 14 December, so customers can search for train times after this date to see what they’ll be. - Details of TfW services can now be found on our website via www.tfw.wales, previously known as ‘Journey Checker’.
