Transport for Wales (TfW) special one day charity rail tour was a huge success, raising £1,337 for the Railway children and TfW’s charity of the year Alzheimer’s Society.
The tour, which ran on Saturday 25 April, welcomed 115 passengers on a memorable journey on board a Mark 4 train. The excursion departed from Holyhead and travelled along the North Wales coast and through the scenic Welsh Marches to Swansea, before returning via the same route.
The event provided passengers with a rare opportunity to travel on sections of track not regularly covered by passenger train, including freight loops and the ‘Leckwith Loop’ between Ninian Park and the South Wales Mainline.
Alexia Course, Chief Commercial Officer at Transport for Wales said: “We are incredibly proud to have partnered with the 225 Group and the Branch Line Society for such a fantastic cause.
“The success of the tour highlights the best of our colleagues and partners, and we are thrilled to have raised funds which will be divided equally between two very important charities.”
Lauren Bromham, Alzheimer’s Society Regional Fundraiser, added: “We are so grateful that Transport for Wales has chosen Alzheimer’s Society as its charity of the year.
“Thank you to everyone involved in making the Mark 4 rail tour such a memorable and successful event. “We simply couldn’t reach everyone who needs us without the continued support of our incredible fundraisers like Transport for Wales.”
