Transport for Wales (TfW) is expanding the Machynlleth fflecsi service across the Dyfi Valley, allowing more communities across Powys and Gwynedd to benefit from flexible, demand responsive transport.

Launching in October 2026, the enhanced network will see an additional fflecsi vehicle introduced, extending the service beyond the Dulas Valley and replacing the B36 bus route with a flexible offer.

The expansion will connect communities including Llanwrin, Glantwymyn, Cemmaes, Aberangell, Mallwyd and Dinas Mawddwy, as well as Aberhosan, Tal-y-wern, Darowen and Abercegir.

Passengers will also be able to connect to the TrawsCymru T2 and T28 services offering convenient travel between Aberystwyth and Bangor.

Delivered through a partnership between TfW, Powys County Council, Cyngor Gwynedd and Lloyds Coaches, the service is designed to improve connectivity in rural communities and provide better access to employment, education, healthcare and leisure opportunities.

Mark Hooper, Deputy Minister for Transport said: "The Welsh Government is committed to improving public transport across rural Wales, and this expansion of the fflecsi service into the Dyfi Valley is a great example of that ambition in action.

“By connecting more communities in Powys and Gwynedd with flexible transport, we're helping people access jobs, essential services and leisure opportunities that might otherwise be out of reach. We're pleased to support this partnership between Transport for Wales, local authorities and Lloyds Coaches, and look forward to seeing the benefits it brings to residents across Mid Wales."

“Demand-responsive transport plays an important role in our vision for a more integrated and accessible public transport network, and we're pleased to be working with our partners to deliver these improvements."

Councillor Jackie Charlton, Cabinet Member for a Greener Powys, said: “The expansion of the fflecsi service will make a real difference to communities across Powys by helping people access the services they need, in a way that also benefits the environment.

"I encourage residents to visit us at Machynlleth Market. The team will be on hand to demonstrate the service, explain how booking works and answer any questions.”

To promote the enhanced network, representatives from Powys County Council, Lloyds Coaches, TfW and Gwynedd Council will be attending Machynlleth Market on 23 and 30 September between 0930 - 1500. Residents are invited to go along to find out more and ask any questions they may have.

Journeys can be reserved in advance or on the day, subject to availability. The service operates 6 days a week, with hours tailored to local demand.
