Transport for Wales (TfW) ffeibr has successfully connected four Gower College campuses through a development of a new dark fibre network loop.

In partnership with ARO Technologies, the new network connects four of the College's key sites, Gorseinon, Tycoch, Sketty Hall Business School and Llwyn-y-Bryn.

The upgrade provided a future-proof digital backbone for 10,000 students and 850 staff members, protecting approximately 100 servers housing everything from student records to digital learning sites.

By choosing ffeibr's dark fibre solution over costly cloud migration options, the College gained total control over its network alongside vital built-in resilience. The multi network path helps the college maintain connectivity even in the event of a fault.

Guy Reiffer, Managing Director of ffeibr, said: "Gower College Swansea needed guaranteed resilience, so we showed them the routes.

“Dark fibre gives organisations full control over their capacity and their future, and it's a model we want to bring to more Welsh colleges, universities, public bodies and businesses.

“For those who don't need their own fibre, our gigabit services offer fast, dependable connectivity backed by the same engineering standards."

Kelly Fountain, CEO of Gower College Swansea, said: "The solution had to be right technically and commercially first. But as a publicly funded Welsh college, we also think carefully about the wider value our spending creates."

Simon Palmer, Director of IT and Digital Innovation at Gower College Swansea, said: "We really needed to build resilience in all parts of our service. It's critical for everything. ffeibr were very transparent, with maps in front of us showing us their network and how they were providing it. It gave me full confidence that they knew what we needed and they could provide exactly that."

He added: "I would wholeheartedly recommend ffeibr. They were very easy to work with, collaborative, delivered efficiently on time and to cost."
