The week-long celebration of all things Cymraeg is coming to Pontypridd. This year’s Eisteddfod Genedlaethol is situated in Transport for Wales’ home town and is set to bring the communities of Wales together through a festival of arts and culture.
Here’s everything you need to know about this year’s Eisteddfod.
Pontypridd is home to the national anthem.
The Welsh National Anthem ‘Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau’ was composed in Pontypridd by a local father and son duo, Evan James and James James.
When you visit Ynysangharad park, take a look at the bronze memorial dedicated to both Evan James and James James and have a listen to the iconic anthem.
You should use public transport to get to Pontypridd
This year’s Eisteddfod is set in the heart of an urban town so visitors are encouraged to travel sustainably and leave the car at home.
Pontypridd station is less than a 5 minute walk from the Maes and there's also a bus station if you're coming from a nearby town. There is also a park and ride service in place, you can find out more here.
TfW will be putting on additional services to get you to and from the Eisteddfod safely.

The unique crown design is inspired by the old bridge of Pontypridd
This year's Eisteddfod crown has been designed by Elan Rhys Rowlands. The design is inspired by the iconic old bridge of Pontypridd with a nod to the national anthem.
The Eisteddfod doesn’t stop at the park gates.
Whilst the Eisteddfod is bustling with competitions and activities, there's lots of things to do in and around Pontypridd. Take a stroll through the town, sample some local food in the traditional Pontypridd market and make sure you grab a welsh cake and a paned from Princes.
There are a number of fringe events around the town including a Welsh market at nearby Mill Street Quarter.
Pontypridd is close to the valleys if you want to explore some Welsh mining towns and of course it's just 30 minutes by train into the capital city of Cardiff.
